Dommie Yambo-Odotte is the senior media advisor, producer and TV show host at Development Through Media (DTM), which she co-founded in 1996 and started operations in 1997. The organisation is among the first development oriented independent initiatives to specifically work towards policy reforms, capacity building, awareness raising and attitude change through sustained communication and public relations strategies using the media, in general and audio-visual media in particular. DTM works mainly in Kenya and also undertakes assignments within the region and at the international level.
Dommie’s work targets development information for educational and entertainment purpose and is a four-time award-winning producer for several of her documentaries and infomercials. As a correspondent writer, Dommie publishes her work on the websites of partner organisations. These works will, in September 2013, be compiled and republished in Dommie’s website currently being developed and will include podcasts, videos, and a blog - as well as leveraging other social media platforms.
Dommie’s educational background includes professional multimedia training in the areas of photography, film production, post-production dramatology and writing from the renowned Kenya Institute of Mass Communication as well as the Thompson Foundation Television Institute. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Applied Psychology at Liverpool University where she intends to apply the psychological knowledge gained in the development of more innovative and effective communication approaches for influencing positive human behaviour.
